Career
Before entering politics, Winnie Brinks worked in the nonprofit sector, including as executive director of One Way House and as a caseworker with The Source. She also worked as a paraprofessional in local schools.
In 2012, she launched a successful write-in campaign and was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives. She served three terms in the House, representing the 76th District.
In 2018, Brinks was elected to the Michigan Senate. She became Senate Democratic Caucus Whip in 2019 and was elected Senate Majority Leader in 2023, becoming the first woman in Michigan history to hold the position.
